PETALING JAYA: World No.1 Nicol David failed in her bid to win an eighth consecutive CIMB Malaysian Open squash championship after losing 10-12, 13-11, 6-11, 2-11 to Egyptian Raneem El Weleily at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara on Saturday.
The 29-year-old Nicol was sluggish from the start and failed to cope with Weleily's powerful and accurate shots throughout.
The win is only Weleily's fifth Women's Squash Association (WSA) title, and it was also her first title in a tournament which Nicol also competed in.
"Raneem was playing very well and everything she hit went in," said Nicol.
"I was struggling with my length and depth and you can't do that against a player of Raneem's caliber.
"It's a disappointing result, no doubt, and I'm very sorry to let the fantastic home crowd down," added Nicol. - theStarOnline
